If you follow me on Social Media you probably have seen a couple of photos and posts about the Pet Photography Retreat I attended in Barcelona, Spain. Yes! Go me! I am one lucky girl! I could not believe how the Universe worked in my favor in order for me to achieve this dream. Seriously! I was the last person to register for it, and I took the very last spot available. I had known of the workshop for a few months, but didn’t think I would be able to afford all the expenses related in attend it. I was “praying” for a miracle. Do you believe in miracles? I do! You see, Barkelona was in April right before tax season, and for the first time in many, many, many years I received tax return check. Miracle! Totally unexpected. The amount? The exactly amount of the workshop fee. Miracle again! I called my credit card to find out if I had enough rewards points, and guess what? I had enough points to cover almost the entire flight to Barcelona, Spain. I believe that when we want something bad enough the Universe conspires in our favor. I was happy for the opportunity to attend Barkelona and grateful for all my miracles!
We all stayed at this gorgeous 11th Century Village home in Olivella, Spain, called Casa Felix. Amazingly beautiful!!! I am a big fan of the HBO TV show Game of Thrones, and I felt like I was in one of those noble family’s home of the show. Yes my lord, and my lady, the place was that old or should I say vintage?! Incredible! I never thought in a million years I would visit such a cool place. So much history in that house, I am assuming. What an amazing location for a Pet Photography Retreat!
Well, attending a workshop of this magnitude was always a dream of mine, so once I decided that Pet Photography was going to be my niche of specialization I knew I had to take on the opportunity to go to Barkelona, an out of this world pet photography retreat. I knew it would change my life. I knew I was going to learn so much and I would be able to confidently call myself a professional pet photographer.
Talking about professional pet photographers, one of the reasons I was so eager to attend Barkelona was that instead one teacher, we would have three teachers (and a bonus teacher Sam Haddix) All talented, successful and unique in their own way pet photographers! Nicole Begley, of Nicole Begley Photography and creator of Hair of Dog Professional Pet Photographers, Charlotte Reeves of Charlotte Reeves Photography, and creator of Learn Pet Photography, and the famous Kaylee Greer, of Dog Breath Photography. I had been following them for a while and their work is absolutely gorgeous. What a great opportunity it was to to learn from these amazing photographers and truly awesome people. They were so helpful, supportive, caring and true givers! I could not be happier!
Look at this photo, I am shooting side by side with Charlotte Reeves, the queen of lighting. How awesome is that? Charlotte is such an amazing photographer and teacher! Her work is gorgeous! I am a luck girl to have had the chance to personally meet her, work side by side, and learn from her. I worked side by side with the other teachers too, but I have no behind the scenes images to prove it. Bummer!
We were a group 15 students/photographers, some were from the US, others came all way from Australia, Canada, Ireland and the UK. A wonderful and talented group of pet photographers with one goal in mind, better their photography skills and improve their pet photography businesses! I was so happy to have had the opportunity to meet and work side by side with many of them. And the best part is that we are still in touch supporting and helping one another. I feel like I have made friends for life!
One of the best parts of the workshop for me was the Dog Behavior class taught by Ingrid Ramon, a dog behaviorist residing in Barcelona, Spain. I wish I could take her home. Seriously! She knows so much about dogs’ behavior, their body language and how to properly train them…she could definitely help me out with my stubborn puppy. Here is Ingrid with her adorable pup Blat…
I had truly the best time in Barcelona, Spain. Attending this workshop was one of the best experience I have ever had in my life. I am so glad I made the decision to invest in myself and in my career as a pet photographer. I have definitely to improved my pet photography skills, and have learned so much about the business side of pet photography. I am now ready to take on the pet photography market in New Jersey and New York hehe.
And of course, there were some many other amazing things about this workshop but I think I might have bored your already. Barkelona has changed my life in so many ways and for that I am forever grateful.
All you need is love…and a dog!
